The last three days

From time to time, God sends us a wake up call from our complacency and indifference. The greater our complacency and indifference, the greater the wake up call. And that is how I saw Typhoon Ondoy. When one is confronted with one's mortality. When one realizes that one can, and might really die, perspectives change. Suddenly, houses, cars and other material things do not matter. Suddenly, families and friends matter a lot. Suddenly you realize that time in this world is short.

After the mud and the dirt have been removed from the streets and from my ground floor, I can sit in my now dry chair and look at the sunset. And ponder what Ondoy has taught me in these last three days...
